A wine tradition into the third millennium

The tradition of noble wines is almost as old as the history of mankind itself. Already, for many people wine is the drik of gods. The Celts produced wine in the Mönchhof region and the Romans continued the tradition.
Records of a gift of land in Monchof, from the Hungarian King Andreas II to the Cistercian monks in 1217 confirm a history of wine growing which has continued to the present day.

Thanks to the mild winters, hot summers and the hard work of the Mönchhof wine-growers, the wines of the area obtain both national and international recognition at the highest levels. On the gentle slopes of the Parndorf Plateau lies this, the oldest wine region in Austria, covering 650 hectares of vineyards.
The most popular of the white wines are the Weissburgunder, Pinot Gris, Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Neuburger and Sämling. Well known red wines include Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, and St.Laurent. A special tradition of the region is the production of various kinds of sweet wines.
